This quarantine hasn’t done any good for my social fun skills. You get good at being social by being social, obviously. But we’ve been on lockdown and seeing very few people.

I love to be around people and have fun and make jokes about dumb stuff, you know human stuff. But now that I’ve begun to see some of my friends again I’ve noticed that I don’t have as much fun as I had right before the quarantine. Why could it be? Are my friends more boring?

But no, they are not, they are just as fun as anyone else. What’s wrong has nothing to do with whom I hang out, but with my attitude and my expectations. I began to expect fun from my friends, without being fun myself first. It’s not the first time that this has happened to me, especially since I left drinking about a year ago. Fun, carefree, are attitudes that you need to learn how to cultivate and implement into your life.
