A friend of mine visits Haiti regularly because he does some charity work there. He said that when the earthquake hit the country, massive amounts of supplies went to Haiti. He said it was a problem because the society couldn't do anything. What I'm trying to say is that maybe you need UBI along with education, don't you think? Maybe to discuss what's important and what no?
The second thing is that unions can do harm as well. In my country, Mexico, the teachers union is beyond corrupt. Teachers actively protest against having to do exams that prove that they are knowledgeable. And because they are members of the union, it's extremely hard to fire an incompetent teacher.
For the second point, the answer might be balance?
I know that things need to change. But I also think that the answers and the things we need to do are way more complex and gray than the popular and current black and white solutions.
