Will You Choose Water Over Wine?

I am writing this in my bedroom, on a Friday night. Do I feel guilty? With my almost 31 years, and no girlfriend, nor any prospect? Sure a little. You see, since high school I’ve been used to going out on the weekends. There’s a difference now though, and it is that I don’t drink anymore.

I didn’t stop going out though. I promised myself that I would stop drinking (it’s been almost three years now) but that I would still keep going out with my friends and meeting new people. I had worked so far. But tomorrow I’m going to go for a long run with a friend, and I prefer to sleep early tonight.

That’s what happens when you stop drinking, you begin to choose and develop yourself in other areas.

Drinking is super fun. It is also a cure, but also a source, of anxiety. You see, when you drink, planning, socially speaking, is easy. You just go out for drinks, right? But when you don’t drink, it suddenly turns into something complicated. Part of this is because you realize that you need to develop yourself in different ways to be a fun person. Nobody wants to hang with the lame non-talkative person at the bar to give you an example. And so you need to develop your talking skills, you need to learn to let yourself go and not take yourself so seriously, because if you do, you can’t have fun.
