We are certainly living as irresponsible frat bros. You’ve got a point there. Collectively, we are like kids. But, what do you do when the kids have no education? When they are blatantly ignorant to the other possibilities of organizing a society?
I recently saw a video of a bro, arguing against a vegan about the difference between eating pork and dog. The bro’s answer was that “because it’s a dog”, as if it were obvious. He was plainly dumb and really, really hard to argue with. I imagine most of the society in the same way. They have to be told what is good and what is bad. Now, with this in mind, is there any hope other than changing the way our system works top-down?
Because, let’s be honest, do you really think democracy works? On our times? Democracy is currently a joke. Most people, including myself, just don’t have the time to inform ourselves about something as complex as politics. People are to busy getting breath to their mouths.
What is basically wrong is the goals of our systems, the indicators. The GDP’s main goal is to increase consumption. What about measuring the standard of living instead? Measure things that matter and work towards them. But how? How can we do that?
