On Living Willingly

Living by choice and not by the forceful pull of life.

An excellent Stoic analogy compares living as if one would be tied up to a wagon, that keeps on moving. You can choose not to move, but the cart will move and drag you either way, so, better to move along with it and enjoy the allowed freedom within those constraints.

It is a fruitful choice to make, to live willingly. You live differently when you know you are doing it by your own choice. It feels better.

A verse from the bible outlines this same idea, it says:

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Send me.

Ready for life, you don’t wait for life to call upon you, you’re ready to go.

I had an amazing last couple of weeks living by this philosophy until I got sick. I’ve been sick for the last week, either Covid or Influenza, it doesn’t matter. I forgot about this, and just now am remembering it again.

But here I am again, living willingly, and hope to keep doing it whatever the circumstances.
